A Puget Sound native, Sally’s family has had property on the south part of Whidbey Island for over 100 years. She spent summers there as a child with fellow board member and cousin Dick Wood.  She also shares a family beach house on Harstine Island and claims South Sound connections as well.

She has supported People For Puget Sound financially since its inception 20 years ago and has attended fundraisers for years.

“We need to work with developers, local groups, towns, Ecology and others to change how we co-exist with a healthy Sound. We need to curb and stop storm water run-off and encourage practices that stop pollutants from reaching the Sound,” says Sally.

Education is also very important. “We need to educate everyone in the Northwest about the importance of preserving our Sound and we need to create opportunities for people to become directly involved in that preservation.”

Sally plans to be involved in People For Puget Sound’s legislative efforts and to work with our new executive director in planning for our organization’s next generation.

Naming a favorite place in the Sound is a tough one. “As my grandmother would say when she was asked if she had a favorite grandchild:  ‘Yes, I have a favorite...which ever one I'm thinking about at that moment.

“When I am at our Harstine beach house, I think that’s the most beautiful, peaceful place on earth. Yesterday, it was Penn Cove. And a few weeks ago, I was looking at Elliott Bay and marveling at how beautiful an active harbor can be. So I guess the answer is ...yes, I have a favorite.”
