William Derry
President
- Edmonds
Bill is retired from a career in environmental issues working for CH2M HILL and State and Local government agencies. He joined the board in 2005 and is in his second term. He became board president in 2009.
His primary career focus was stormwater, watershed planning and management consulting. Bill is also a musician. Bill grew up enjoying Puget Sound in the Richmond Beach area and cruising the San Juan Islands.
“After a professional career in regional environmental issues, I know that no major changes to protect the environment occur without organized citizen involvement. Government and technical specialists cannot protect the environment without us. I have known about and followed People For Puget Sound since its formation and I know that it is the most effective organization addressing Puget Sound. That’s why I got involved with People For Puget Sound.”
Bill says that the most important things to do for the health of the Sound are to ban toxics, treat existing sources of stormwater, prevent expansion of urban areas and loss of forest, and protect and restore nearshore habitat.
During is terms on the board, Bill hopes to guide the organization through the transition to a new executive director and come out with an even stronger organization.
Bill's favorite place in Puget Sound? "Roche Harbor, any shoreline."
