Rachel Benbrook

I was born in the wilds of north-central British Columbia and grew up on a working farm on the East Coast. While working towards my BA in Biology at Grinnell College, I traveled to the remote West Coast of Vancouver Island to study nearshore and old-growth ecology- and fell in love with the temperate rain forests and rocky coasts of the Northwest.

Restoration Ecologist

I was born in the wilds of north-central British Columbia and grew up on a working farm on the East Coast.  While working towards my BA in Biology at Grinnell College, I traveled to the remote West Coast of Vancouver Island to study nearshore and old-growth ecology- and fell in love with the temperate rain forests and rocky coasts of the Northwest. I have lived in Washington State since 1998, and spent almost a decade working on the water and in the woods of the San Juan Islands as a sea kayak guide, naturalist, environmental educator, and field biologist. I have been working with People For Puget Sound to engage the regional kayaking community in eradication of invasive Spartina grasses since 2008, and also work on other North Sound restoration priorities. I live on Guemes Island in Skagit County with my family—including my own two awesome island boys!
