Sea Cinema
People For Puget Sound’s Sea Cinema is a multi-day, multi-partner film festival, held in honor of World Oceans Day. The festival screens high quality ocean related films from all over the world, with special attention to issues facing Puget Sound when possible. Additionally, the festival has a speaker, presenter or ocean related performance each evening of the event. 2012 will mark Sea Cinema’s 5th year in Olympia! In 2011 over 800 people attended the film festival – which boasted a variety of independent films, long and short as well as big name films such as Disney Oceans.
World Oceans Day
World Oceans Day, which had been celebrated every June 8 since its original proposal in 1992 by Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008. Since then it has been coordinated internationally by The Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network with greater success and global participation each year.
Get Involved
We welcome film festival sponsors. You can sponsor a night of the venue (for around $1,000), a film screening (for between $200-$500) or an amount of your choice into the film festival’s general fund. All sponsors will have their names and/or logos displayed on the festival’s posters, web site and programs.
