South Sound Earth Month Wraps Up With Mission Creek Restoration
If you’re hungry for more good work this Earth Month or haven’t done your fair share, volunteer with People For Puget Sound at its Mission Creek Restoration Work Day on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 10 AM at Priest Point Park.
“This site contains some of the best shoreline habitat in any urban area on the Sound,” said Dan Grosboll, People For Puget Sound’s restoration ecologist.
“It has one largely functional pocket estuary, Ellis Creek Cove, and another that will be restored in the future, Mission Creek Cove. Come out and join us for this South Sound Earth Month restoration day at the mouth of Mission Creek. “
Work will involve preparing the area for the removal of an old road and the restoration of salt marsh along the fringe of the cove that is now a marsh filled in with sediment. This event is co-sponsored by People For Puget Sound, City of Olympia, and South Puget Sound Salmon Enhancement Group.
Snacks and drinks will be provided and Spring will have sprung in blooming native shrubs of the park.
The workday event is a great way to get in the mood to enjoy Olympia’s annual Procession of the Species and Art Walk later in the day.
