Norm Dicks, Jean Takekawa and Hood Canal Coalition To Receive Magnuson Puget Sound Legacy Awards May 18
The citizens’ conservation group People For Puget Sound today announced that Congressman Norm Dicks, Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge manager Jean Takekawa, and John Fabian and the Hood Canal Coalition will be honored on May 18 with the 2010 Warren G. Magnuson Puget Sound Legacy Awards.
The awards will be presented at People For Puget Sound’s fifth annual “New Day for Puget Sound” breakfast held at 7:30 AM May 18 at the W Hotel in Seattle.
The program will also feature a keynote address by author and conservation advocate Dr. Carl Safina.
The Puget Sound Legacy Award honors Washington Senator Warren G. Magnuson who, among his legislative accomplishments, passed legislation protecting marine mammals and prohibiting supertankers from entering Puget Sound. The awards are given to individuals, projects, groups or businesses nominated for their outstanding work on behalf of the marine life in Puget Sound.
Congressman Norm Dicks is recognized for being a lifelong friend of Puget Sound and for advocating and building federal support for Puget Sound protection and recovery.
Jean Takekawa is recognized for her decade-long leadership in brings to fruition the restoration of over 760 acres of Nisqually Delta, a major step forward towards recovering Puget Sound.
John Fabian and the Hood Canal Coalition are recognized for their persistent and courageous efforts to protect the shoreline and critical habitats of Hood Canal from the development of gravel export dock near Shine, in Jefferson County.
Table reservations for the breakfast can be made online. The breakfast is free; however, attendees will be asked to donate to support People For Puget Sound’s education, advocacy and restoration programs.
