FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dave Peeler Named Programs Director of People For Puget Sound
People For Puget Sound today announced that Dave Peeler will become Director of Programs beginning September 16.
Peeler, a 30-plus-year veteran of the Washington State Department of Ecology, has worked on many Puget Sound issues and will be responsible for the organization’s legislative, policy and field organizing activities. He has extensive experience developing and managing programs in water quality, water resources and shorelines management.
He replaces Naki Stevens who will be leaving the organization this week to assume a position at the Department of Natural Resources as executive policy advisor on Puget Sound.
“We—and Puget Sound—are extraordinarily blessed that Dave Peeler is coming to work at People For Puget Sound,” said Kathy Fletcher, People For Puget Sound’s executive director. “His vast experience and deep knowledge of state government and Puget Sound issues will help People For Puget Sound achieve even more success in the future.”
“There is no one more dedicated and accomplished than Naki Stevens in the fight to save Puget Sound,” said Fletcher. “We will miss her more than words can say. But we are thrilled that she will be carrying on her efforts for the Sound, and look forward to working with her in her new capacity.”
Peeler, a Seattle native and a graduate of the University of Washington with degrees in zoology and literature, resides just outside Olympia on the shores of southern Puget Sound. Last year he retired from the Department of Ecology where he most recently was a special assistant to the director, and previously managed Ecology’s water quality program.
“I am very excited to be joining People For Puget Sound at this critical time in the health of the Sound and the fish and wildlife that depend on it,” said Peeler.
