FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
600 Expected to Attend Environmental Lobby Day Jan 26
During the 2010 legislative session Washington’s environmental community and People For Puget Sound join together to rally citizens in a grassroots movement to speak out for a clean and healthy Washington State.
Citizens from all over Washington state are encouraged to descend on Olympia on January 26 to lobby legislators for clean water, safe baby bottles, and sustaining the budget for environmental protections.
Lobby Day will include special guest speakers, training on how to lobby, appointments with district legislators, food and beverages, issue briefing sessions, and a post-Lobby Day party.
Buses will be leaving from Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Everett, Bellevue and Seattle and from Port Townsend, Bremerton and Tacoma for the 8:30 AM start of the all-day event on the Olympia Capitol Campus.
Registration is required for the day’s food and refreshments and for bus transportation, and can be done online until January 22.
After January 22, call (206) 382-7007 ext. 111 to register and to make reservations.
In 2008, the Environmental Priorities Coalition successfully passed all four environmental priorities. In 2009, over 500 citizen advocates descended upon the capitol.
The Coalition’s 2010 legislative package includes:
- Working for Clean Water bill is about creating jobs, rebuilding our local economies, and cleaning up polluted waterways like Puget Sound and the Spokane River.
- Safe Baby Bottle Act to protect children’s health and the environment by phasing out the harmful chemical bisphenol A (BPA) from baby bottles, food and beverage cans, and other consumer products.
- Sustain Environmental Protections in the Budget to ensure adequate funding for the core environmental protections that make Washington State a healthy place to live.
Details on the legislative package can be found at Environmental Priorities Coalition.
