What We Do
People For Puget Sound participates in and monitors scientific forums throughout the Sound like the Puget Sound Nearshore Ecosystem Restoration Project, the Puget Sound Partnerships Science Panel and the broader North Pacific Region to stay up to speed with the latest understanding of Puget Sound’s dynamic physical and biological processes and how humans interact with those processes both positively and negatively including climate science, restoration science and social sciences affecting restoration.
Our restoration projects are adaptively managed using on the ground monitoring techniques, employing cutting edge technologies like spatial planning and analysis and mycoremediation. Each project is envisioned with our partners throughout the region for that project’s ability to deliver Soundwide results for Chinook salmon recovery or to contribute to the Soundwide nearshore restoration portfolio. Learn more about the restoration program below.
Citizen Science
We are involved in citizen science projects throughout the Sound to engage skilled volunteers in data collection and research to inform restoration activities. Check out our diverse citizen science projects here.
Habitat Restoration
We are currently working at 27 habitat restoration projects throughout the Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits. These sites range form completed restoration projects where we are working on stewardship and maintenance, to capital projects where we are developing restoration design. Check out the Where We Work page for more information and a complete map of all sites.
Sound Stewardship
This successful program is designed to build a constituency of skilled volunteers supportive of restoration in their community. We train Sound Stewards to help lead work parties and conduct restoration activities. Check it out here.
