Partnership issues 'State of the Sound' report

The Puget Sound Partnership issued its 2009 'State of the Sound' report yesterday-- but are we on track to restore the Sound to health by 2020?

The Puget Sound Partnership issued its 2009 'State of the Sound' report yesterday-- but are we on track to restore the Sound to health by 2020?

The report says that trends are getting worse in areas such as fish harvest, orca whales, herring and eel grass but getting better in areas such as restored habitats, cleaner shellfish beds and some salmon runs.

But, according to People For Puget Sound executive director Kathy Fletcher, the report lacks the important element of accountability, the measures by which to judge whether we are on the right track to recovering the health of the Sound by 2020.

"We need to know where we stand," she writes in her latest blog. If we aren’t on track yet to restore the Sound to health by 2020, and I don’t think we are, we need to get on track."
