Restoration Ecology Technician **CLOSED**

People For Puget Sound seeks a motivated Restoration Ecology Technician (internship) to start January 2012.

People For Puget Sound seeks to protect and restore Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits - our living waters, the land and our common future. We work vigorously through hands-on restoration, advocacy and education to realize the vision of a clean and healthy Sound, teeming with fish and wildlife, and cared for by the people who live here.

People For Puget Sound seeks to create a team of motivated interns who are passionate about the health of Puget Sound to implement monitoring studies and scientific experiments that inform adaptive management of habitat restoration areas.  Individuals may also be involved in helping implement other aspects of the restoration program such as on-the-ground restoration events.  This is an exciting opportunity for a university student or recent graduate hoping to acquire hands-on, professional work experience while also making an impact. People For Puget Sound is a leader among the environmental community and our communications strategy plays a critical role in achieving our mission.

The Restoration Ecology Technician will work with a team led by the Restoration Ecologist to:

  • Attend monthly meetings with the Restoration Ecologist
  • Work on already funded projects, but also brainstorm possible additional projects
  • Review the current literature for background information
  • Create the experimental design and write implementation and monitoring procedures
  • Set up field experiments and conduct monitoring projects
  • Write a report complete with background, design and implementation

Commitment requirement: Technicians are asked to commit to at least project from design through implementation.

Location: Monthly meetings are held in the downtown Seattle office, but remotely located technicians can call into the meetings.  Field experiments and monitoring projects will be located in Seattle, Everett, Maury Island, and possibly Olympia and Orcas Island.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for the environment
  • A willingness to learn and work collaboratively
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Familiarity with the scientific process
  • Proven ability to work independently

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. People For Puget Sound provides its volunteers a supportive, flexible work environment with opportunity to develop professional skills and make an impact!

To apply, please email a cover letter and resume before December 31, 2011 to Dhira Brown.

Interviews and candidate selection will be scheduled in early January for internship work to begin Winter Quarter 2012.
